We need to eat in order to live, but what we choose to eat and how we do so brings us into the realm of culture and therefore food provides us with an interesting subject for anthropological analysis. This man is selling churchkhella in the Tbilisi market in Georgia. Churchkhella is a string of hazelnuts or walnuts dipped in thickened grape juice which forms a kind of fruit leather around the nuts. They are hung to dry and last throughout the year. They used to be given to men going off to war (or maybe hiking the Pacific Trail).
